1. What will you sell?
There are a lot of items that you could sell, but always go with what you know best. If you are a collector of comic books, toys, or memorabilia, the online market is made for you! There are plenty of other items too, such as candles, clothing, or even art. If there is something unique, there is a unique buyer! .
2. Is there a market?
Now it is time to make sure there are buyers for the items you selected. Check Amazon, Ebay, and Etsy for your items. Look for items that are similar to yours. For many of the items, you can now scan the UPC on the box and see the exact item you are trying to sell. It is better to be non-descript and spend some time going through search results. There are many sellers who do not label or tag their items properly and sometimes never sell! Be careful to avoid that by learning the names or categories that your item can sell as.
Take note of all the items that are like yours. Then come back a few days later and see if the listings are still active. Great items sell quickly, and listings get closed. If yours is one of those, you are in luck, but do not be disheartened if it takes a while to sell.

3. Where to sell?
Look at all the places that you can sell, some are better for your items than others. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages. Ebay tends to sell the fastest but has higher fees than the others. Etsy sells slower but generally for higher prices. If you see lots of similar products, it may be best to avoid that platform and go to one with a more unique product set.
4. What is an item profile?
There are two basic types of profiles for selling, the product and the seller. Both need to be maintained and built using the best quality images and text. Your phone can take good photos but using a proper camera can give you that extra pop to allow you to sell your items faster and more effectively. The more content on your profiles the better, but do not sacrifice quality for quantity.
5. When do I publish?
Only when you are ready. But if you are spending too long trying to get it perfect, your sales may suffer. Sometimes it is best to get it into the world and correct as you go.
6. When do I respond?
In the fast-paced world of Amazon, you need to respond within 24-48 to all requests. Customers do not like waiting anymore, for some, a few hours is enough to not trust the sale anymore. Generally, most consumers understand you are an individual, if they do not, they may not be worth your time.
7. How do I close the deal?
Many times, customers ask for you to lower the price to accommodate their needs, or simply to get it for cheaper. Know the price you are comfortable with before even placing the item online. If the item is below that price, do not sell it. It is always your decision to sell or not. There are many things that go into selling the item, selling fast is not always the best course.
